NZILA President’s message – Kavita Deobhakta

The NZILA annual conference is rapidly approaching.

The event is on 4-6 September at Te Pae, the Christchurch Convention Centre.

The theme, Regeneration | Whakahounga, reflects the reconstruction and transformation that has occurred in Christchurch after the earthquakes.

The conference blends traditional, yet ever popular, presentations with new elements and thought-provoking sessions that align with the theme and the changing dynamics of the insurance law industry.

The conference program is here.

The social program offers plenty of networking opportunities and showcases the regeneration of Ōtautahi Christchurch.

We welcome two international speakers:

  • Dr Franziska Arnold-Dwyer, Senior Lecturer, Queen Mary University of London, who will speak on legal and regulatory issues for insurers arising from climate change, and
  • Will Miller, WTW, Head of Crisis Management, Asia Pacific, who will speak on conflicts abroad.

If you’ve not yet registered to attend, you can do that here. This year we expect more than 300 attendees.

I look forward to seeing plenty of members and guests in Christchurch.

In other news, NZILA hosted an excellent webinar on 30 July on the role of AI in insurance.

Speakers were Misha Henaghan from Wotton + Kearney; Miro Dordevich from Delta Insurance; and Deborah McBreaty from Accenture.

An October webinar will be a trusts update. Speakers will be confirmed soon.

NZILA has renewed the reciprocal membership benefits with AILA and we are looking to formalise other membership joint benefits with other organisations.
