Recognising the value of AILA membership

AILA President's message – Melanie Quixley

This year marks 22 years since I joined AILA as bright-eyed junior solicitor new to the industry.

I’d just started in private practice and was looking for an opportunity to connect with – and learn from – colleagues in the many and varied sectors within the industry.

I remember my first AILA National Conference in Adelaide, where I not only broadened my knowledge of the industry but gained an understanding of how my work fits into the insurance world.

I really felt connected to industry colleagues from all over the country and there was real collegiality amongst members. I still love our annual conferences and the opportunity to connect meaningfully with people I never would otherwise – brokers, underwriters, other service providers, international insurance industry representatives and insurance industry C suites.

My role within AILA has evolved from member to State Committee member, State President, National Board member, Vice President and now President. I’m passionate about raising awareness of our organisation so that more people can benefit from what it offers.

AILA membership opens the door to a wider network, great education opportunities and a chance to leverage both of those to fast track your career and profile in the industry.

As Board Secretary Andrew Lillico highlights in this edition’s Member Profile, AILA isn’t just about lawyers talking about insurance law. The organisation offers invaluable education and networking opportunities to all industry professionals across law and insurance.

There is something for everyone at all levels, whether you’re a young professional just starting out, an emerging leader or already in a leadership role. AILA’s focus is on ensuring the education and programs we provide are relevant to all aspects of insurance.

Now is a great time to join AILA, as this year we’re launching new, exclusive member only programs including Emerging Leaders, facilitated by acclaimed leadership coach Damien van Brunschot. The Emerging Leaders Program is specially designed for the AILA membership and teaches the fundamentals of good leadership to help you on the path to career success.
