March 2025

End of an era

By Chris Rodd, AIDA Vice President

AIDA Europe will host the first meeting of 2025 in Madrid at the end of May, preceded by a full-day meeting of the AIDA Executive and Presidential Council on May 28.

The European meetings are always popular, not only because of an excellent program and high calibre speakers, but also due to the ease and convenience of the European locations.

They are invariably held at a location that involves a short flight within Europe and are always held over two days, enabling many attendees to fly in one day and out at the conclusion of the meeting on day two.

From a personal standpoint, this is a significant meeting for me as it will be my last AIDA Executive and Presidential Council event.

I am stepping down as Australian representative on the Presidential Council, having served for more than 11 years. I believe it is time to appoint a new and younger representative and to this end the AILA Board is currently considering the appointment of my replacement.

I have been involved with AIDA and the World Congresses since my first meeting in Sydney in 1996. Over that time, I’ve contributed to several of the AIDA Working Parties, including Climate and Catastrophic events, and Motor Insurance, and chaired the Dispute Resolution Working Party since 2012.

It has been an honour to represent Australia over these years, a task shared only with my predecessor Michael Gill. I am indebted to AILA and the National Board, who supported my appointment and have continued that support for many years.

Thank you to David Lee, Angus Kench, Cameron Roberts and Melanie Quixley for actively supporting AIDA and my involvement in the organisation.
