September 2003 - Celebrate 20 years at the anniversary dinner
Although the enjoyable, informative national conference in Adelaide is over, there is still another opportunity to celebrate AILA's 20th year.
A dinner will be held to commemorate the first AILA seminar, held on November 8, 1983, at the Menzies Hotel, Sydney. That seminar featured High Court Justice Michael Kirby, who officially launched the association.
It was appropriate that the launch was performed by the former ALRC chairman who was responsible for the first major national inquiry into Australian insurance law which led to the introduction of the Insurance Contracts Act and the Insurance (Agents & Brokers) Act.
We were honoured recently when Justice Kirby returned to open this year's AILA national conference and provide members with insights into his extensive experience in developing and interpreting insurance law.
The 20th Anniversary Dinner will be held at the Inter Continental Hotel, Sydney, on Wednesday, November 12.
I encourage all AILA members to attend and help us celebrate the beginning of their professional body.
The dinner will also provide an opportunity to officially launch AILA's 20th Anniversary Papers. The papers will provide an overview of Australian insurance law history and look forward to the challenges facing insurance lawyers in today's changing world.
The papers will be distributed to all current AILA members before the end of the year and will make a valuable addition to your library.
Invitations for the dinner will be sent to members shortly.
I look forward to seeing you in November.
