Ron Shorter Memorial Award
The Ron Shorter Memorial Award was hosted by AILA NSW for the first time in 2012.
The award was conceptualised by Ron Shorter whose vision was for a competition to be introduced that would assist Young Professionals with their public speaking skills. After Ron's untimely passing earlier this year, AILA NSW with the sponsorship of Colin Biggers & Paisley (CBP), set out to accomplish Ron's vision, which we can now report was an overwhelming success.
The finals were held on 19 July 2012 at CBP's offices, where each of the three finalists delivered a 20 minute presentation on their elected topic in front of 90 of their peers Including over thirty insurance industry luminaries. Unbeknown to the participants AILA NSW added an additional twist to proceedings when MC for the event Mr Robert Crittendon, Partner DLA Piper, announced that Ms Beard was to be accompanied on the judging panel by His Honour Justice Hammerschlag and Ms Linda Murphy (CEO and Principal Registrar of the New South Wales Supreme Court).
Congratulations must again be extended to Eden Winokur of Kennedys, our winner, our joint runners-up Maysem Elmaet of QBE Insurance and James Morse of DLA Piper and all that participated in the inaugural Ron Shorter Memorial Award.
Given the success of the inaugural award, submissions will be sought from applicants seeking to participate for the second year of what promises to be a key event on AILA NSW's annual calendar.
