RON SHORTER AWARD 2022 – WINNER! CONGRATULATIONS CHARLOTTE HALL
The finals of the 2022 Ron Shorter Award were held on 2 August. This unique training opportunity and competition for professionalism in public speaking was held exclusively online in conjunction with our Award partners at AIM and sponsors Sedgwick, Colin Biggers & Paisley, Dever’s List, Law Image and Steadfast.
The Award meets the increasing demand for online presentation skills, where contemporary presenters are expected to hold an audience, have gravitas and be able to influence stakeholders whilst sitting in front of a webcam.
The award is named in memory of long-term AILA supporter and competition architect Ron Shorter, who was a former practice manager of Colin Biggers & Paisley until his untimely death in 2012.
Following the application, training and selection process, finalists CHARLOTTE HALL of Jackson McDonald "How major technology trends will transform the insurance industry", NICOLAS SANDRONE of Arch Underwriting "Harry Potter and the rising cost of private health insurance" and DECLAN SEE of Wotton + Kearney "Self-driving cars: Traversing an insurance conundrum" presented for 10 minutes each to the national virtual audience and judges.
The judging panel, consisting of The Hon. Martin Daubney AM, Zoe Sweeney (Head of Group Insurance, Westpac) and Michael Green (Head of Legal & Chief Counsel, Pacific, Aon) were overwhelmingly impressed with all three presenters – noting the challenges of public speaking, the added pressures of online delivery where face-to-face connection cannot be obtained and where engagement is the key to success.
Following the judging panel deliberations in conjunction with the results of the live audience vote, the winner of the award was announced.
Charlotte takes home the 2022 crystal award trophy and $1000.
Declan was awarded second place and will receive $500, and Nicolas was placed third taking home $250.
We extend our congratulations to all three finalists, and everyone involved in the 2022 Awards.
